GREEN PLAN

Beirut – Lebanon

Entitled “an original and original legitimacy, a space for the Beirut people”, this Green Plan aims to reinvent the heritage of the city of Beirut as a power of images and identity in order to face globalization.

Two elements form the basis of this policy of upgrading the city of Beirut in order to find a place, or even an identity, in the national and global networks: history and geography.

The green plan aims to improve the living environment of the city’s users by offering them a multifunctional space. It also aims to ‘renaturalize’ the city, drawing its resources from various urban wanderings, photographic scouting, historical research (old postcards), and geographical references.

For example, the former demarcation line will become a large green corridor, thus contributing to the rebirth of the Pine Wood, Beirut’s green lung, an emblematic place located on the demarcation line. Other examples: a landscaped route will link the city gates, the ring road will become the backbone of the landscaping, the urban paths will be planted, etc.

The green plan must guide the municipality’s action on all development projects in the city.
