The Place des Bancs is an emblematic part of the city center, located in the heart of the historic Boucherie district, a symbol of Limoges’ culture and heritage. Situated in the pedestrian zone of the hypercentre, it is an ideal location for commercial activities. The current configuration of the Place des Bancs, combining the commercial activities of the open-air market and the terraces of the eating establishments, forms a lively space for strolling. However, car traffic is still very heavy, and the difficulties of cohabitation between the market and the terraces limit pedestrianization and the possibilities for strolling. The development of the Place des Bancs is therefore part of a strategy to pedestrianize and calm the city center, with the aim of introducing greenery into this very mineral area and adapting to climate change.
